Hannah - England Day 5: August 13, 2015

It's raining, it's pouring, and London is...no, not snoringn (that would be silly *wink*) we got to experience the real London when we dealt with the rain. This morning,  we got up around 7:00 -ish. We had our recurring breakfast of bread,  cheese, and strawberry jam. After breakfast and such we went to the Tower of London.  Luckily this morning it wasn't raining,  so when we arrived at the fortress the weather was quite nice.  There wad a guided tour,  led by the beef eaters (I'll try and explain that name later) that started am hour from when we arrived at eye fortress,  so at went and saw the Cian jewels. I two you. ..they were magnificent.  Talon about gold,  gold,  gold,  and. ..did I mention gold?  Oh,  and huge jewels.  If was so chill getting to see the crown that was written by the queen and her predecessors when they got crowned.  After the ecclesiastical tour pay the crown jewels (I say pay because there were moving sidewalks that ran adjacent to the crowns,  scepters, swords etc.) We still had about half an hour before the guided tour,  so we went to the royal armory.  We saw many many sites if armor.  There was about four 6 fir 4 inch men, top little boys,  top horses!  I really liked the sword displays. I just might get one myself...hmm,  I raffle like if Henry IV's sword. Heh heh heh.  Unfortunately,  it was 9:59 and we had to get Dian to the entrance of the castle by 10:00 for the tour.  We ran out of the armory,  down the street,  and arrived quite out of breathe (not really...just added that for dramatic effect) at the first stop on the guided tour.  Our guide was a joy mam with wonderful detail,  humor,  and fanatic interpretation.  Now,  earlier I said I'd explain what beef eater meant. Well,  there were (and still are) the guards at the Tower of London.  However the name is a mystery.  If could be because the guards were the only ones who got meat,  so the meat storied townsfolk pointed their fingers at the guards in disdain while saying,  "beef eaters!" The guide t tour was informative.  We learned about the many people/royalty who got their heads copper right of.  Mmm, very lovely.  After the guided tour,  we went back to the armory and finished looking through the museum.  Once we were outside,  if started pouring rain. Sumner wanted to walk along the wall,  so we had a very wet walk.  After our watery wall walk,  wet caught the nearest tube to Westminster Abbey. The iconic abbey was still gorgeous,  even while we were dating through the rain. Before the abbey,  we speed for lunch in the basement of a cafe. The food was good.  The lunch so was not only for food,  but for rest and shelter. Once we'd silent...plenty of time in the restaurant (mainly to dry off) we went back out into the rain. (Unfortunately,  the storm hasn't passed) luckily we were indoors. Wow. I mean wow. Westminster Abbey was amazing.  It was almost serenebeing in such a famous and religious building.  There were lots of tombs and memorials within the abbey than I thought. Many monarchs are buried there.  One pay I found fascinating was the alter. The only visible part was about 10-15 feet tall,  but it turns out that only a third of the organ pipes are visible. The sad thing wad that there was no photography allowed within the abbey,  which is 100% understandable.  After the breathtaking abbey,  we passed the coronation chair which has been used for every single coronation since 1308! How cool is that?!? After Westminster Abbey, we walked to the Winston Churchill war rooms.  It is so cool how everyone who worked there lived.  The jobs were so secretive and complex.  Many of the rooms are exactly as they were during WW2. although it was interesting labor about how England's Prime Minister affected the watt,  the museum Rashard us immensely.  After almost 2 hours in the war rooms, we went back up. (The museum is under found, under a regular looking government building, protected with 6 foot layers of solid concrete) after the Churchill war rooms, we stopped by 10 Downing Street, home to the prime minister. Unfortunately there were 2 layers of thick metal gates with 7 armed men guarding the gates. So we didn't really get a. Good look but we still got a peek. After prime ministers house, we rode the tube back to the apartment. We got some dinner at. An Italian restaurant and now I am ready to fall alweep. Tomorrow we are going to Stonehenge!

Cheers,

~Hannah~
