Hannah - England Day 9: August 17, 2015

Boy have we walked. We walked a total of 11.6 miles today! This morning we had a relaxed morning. We were going to go to Windsor castle (essentially the summer home of the queen) but we didn't want to do three days of out of London days. So we rode the tube to the Royal Air Force museum. It was sumner's choice. The place was massive! there were four large building full of (real) full sized planets. The museum took us through the world wars. It seemed the museum had crammed a bunch of aeroplanes in large hangers and stuck signs in front of everything. There also was a flight simulator that sumner and I went on. It was fun, but it made my stomach turn unpleasant flips. We... Well I walked through the myriad of planes for a while. (I looked at interesting signs, whereas sumner looked at every sign...pondering the model, usage, etc. (Approximately 2 hours) there was a cafe mid way through the largest building, so we grabbed some ham and cheese (I had egg) sandwiches. After another hour and a half, we left the RAF museum at 2:00 pm. Sumner didn't want to leave, but we had to get to the Charles Dickens museum/house. The museum was where Dickens wrote Oliver Twist and it is also where he died. This museum was my choice, since I love his novels. (Especially Great Expectations) walking through his house was amazing. I can just picture him sitting down for afternoon tea, or pacing through his study trying to create a new plot. The house a full of stories; his own writings and those of his childhood and personal life. We only had an hour in Dickens house, so we finished the tour rather quickly. On the way back to the apartment, we stopped at the curiosity shop. Mom has a music box that is exactly like the building, so we had a photo stop. We arrived at the apartment around 5:15. I'm doing an online English class this semester, and we thought the class was this evening at 5:30 (we calculated time difference). But realized that we had miscalculated....the day. Oops, it's tomorrow. Ah, I guess it's holiday still, so my brain isn't in the school mode *wink wink* it's also my moms birthday today *applause* so we were going to go to a local Italian restaurant, but found they are closed on Mondays...much to our disappointment. I guess most restaurants close on Mondays. Even though mom didn't get to have Italian, we had a lovely supper on the patio.
Although today was tiring, it was wonderful.
Cheerio,
~Hannah~
