Hannah - England Day 11: August 19, 2015 - LAST DAY *sob*

Hello chaps!
Well, England has been delightful. Today was our last day touring England/London. Unfortunately, mom wasn't feeling well, due to her cough and lack of voice, so she stayed at the apartment while the rest of us went out. We hopped on the tube until we got near London bridge. This morning we toured Shakespeare's globe theatre. Well, we just missed the 9:30 am tour, so we perused the museum. We learned how costumes were made, what musical instruments were used, and how the slightly gory special effect were performed. At 10:00 we went on our guided tour of the globe theatre. Although the current globe theatre is not original (it's the third one built) the building is built exactly as the original one was built. It's made entirely out of oak (pillars and scaffolding) goat hair, (in the walls) muslin, (walls again) and the unique thatched roof. It took 8 years for the builders of the current globe theatre to get approval for a thatched roof. Since the great fire in the late 1600s, thatched roofs were banned within 3 miles of the city centre. While we were touring, a rehearsal for a show was going on. The acoustics in that place were incredible. The actress rehearsing had the aide of the round wooden walls (well, actually 20 sides) to project her voice. Groundlings, as Shakespeare called the audience members who stood for the shows, could fit in the space on the ground. Surprisingly, standing tickets only cost £5, and the best seats in the house cost £40. Rain or snow, hail or lightning, the show always goes on. They actually performed Romeo and Juliet in the snow, and for that week Shakespeare's globe theatre was temporarily called the snow globe. Because of the unique open roof, the elements come down on actors and audience alike. The natural sunlight gives the perfect lighting for the actors. After Shakespeare's globe theatre, we went to the science museum. We got some sandwiches in the museum cafe before plunging into this massive museum. There were things from planes to clocks, old cellphones and computers, and tractors to human brains. There even was a whole section on mathematics! Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the 2 stories of medical information...much to my disappointment. After almost 3 hours in the science museum, we headed back to the apartment. Out last tube ride was rather crowded...but that's London in rush hour! Once at the apartment, we packed all of our stuff. We went to dinner, in the rain, and we are now double and triple checking everything. Here's our plan for the next three days. Surprised y'all huh? (We are cheeky little things...we aren't going directly home...not yet) Well, mom, sumner, and I leave for the airport at 9:00 am. We will fly to Iceland and stay there for a day (so get there Thursday, 8/20/15, stay Friday, 8/21/15, and leave Saturday, 8/22/15) however, my dad has a different plan. He was going to go home with us, but he got called on a business trip. He leaves the apartment at 9:00 am as well, but goes to a hotel where he will in London for two days. (He stays till Saturday) then he leaves England for Ghana, stayed for 2 or 3 weeks, flies to Australia for a few days (maybe a week) then finally comes home. I probably won't post anything else after this. Maybe something on Iceland, but there's nothing too exciting about a 3 hour and 8 hour plane ride.
Well,
Cheers (until next time)
~Hannah~
