Hannah - England Day 6: August 14, 2015 - Stonehenge

well well,
Today wasn't long short day. By that I mean we did basically one thing, which took most of the day. Unfortunately, the weather was rather dreary. It was cold, windy, and quite rainy. So our journey to Stonehenge/Salisbury was very wet. We woke up at 6:30 am, got ready, and went on the tube. We had to switch tubes thee times in order to get to the train station. Once we were in the station (45 minutes early) we got some breakfast. I had a croissant again...heh heh. We got to our platform number, and we got on the train and headed to Salisbury. The ride was about an hour and a half.   When we arrived at Salisbury (think Salisbury steak...although we didn't have any steak) we caught the bus that took us to Stonehenge...well actually to the visitors center/Stonehenge information center. We walked through a small Stonehenge museum that took us through the history of Stonehenge. Did you know that Stonehenge was built around the same time as the great pyramids? Cool huh! Once we finished the museum, we hopped on a different bus that took us to the monoliths themselves. Oh, The wonderful stones. Although it was awed inspiring looking at the rock formation (we got to walk 360 degrees around Stonehenge...with at least 30 feet separation by rope) it was so cold...and wet...and rainy. Praise the Lord this was our first encounter with cold rain. After a wet walk around Stonehenge, we boarded the bus to the visitors center again. We waited for the other bus that took us into Salisbury where we walked to the cathedral of Salisbury. It was so funny seeing this massive church sitting in the middle of a small country town. But the cathedral was as grand as my other cathedral I have seen thus far. With huge stained glass windows, medieval style buttress, and massive organ pipes, this cathedral was nothing but small. Another very interesting thing in this church was a rare original copy of the Magna Carta. In the room that held the Magna Carta, there was a frieze from the Bible starting from creation and ending at the exodus. Before we left the church, I got to participate in a activity where I got to write with a quill pen, much like the monks who wrote the Magna Carta. I wasn't too hard considering it was a lot like my calligraphy pens. After the cathedral we grabbed a late lunch (2:00 pm) before going back to the train station. A one and a half nap was much needed. We transferred to the tube station and got on and off, on and off, on and off before arriving at our stop. By the time we got back to our apartment it was about 6:00, so we dropped stuf off at the apartment and went to dinner at a polish restaurant. Dinner was good, but a lot of food. I got pierogi, but there also was hot cabbage, salad, and this spread for bread. It was quite the dinner. We are now deciding what we will do tomorrow. I believe we are going to Greenwich. (Pronounced gren-itch....ah, those Brits)
Cheerio!
