Hannah - Stockholm: Day 1

Hey guys!
So today we woke up rather late. It was 9:50 and breakfast ended at 10:00. I must say, our family should get a prize for getting ready. Hurrying down to the breakfast room we got in without any problems. The breakfast selections were quite extensive. It seems like our hotel gave recognition to the United States with scrambled eggs and toast, the United Kingdom with baked beans, France with Crépes, and Scandanavian countries with many odd herb options like tumeric. After a delicious yet slightly hurried meal, we left the breakfast room...just to find out that breakfast didn't end until 10:30...*no comment* I guess there was no need for me to run around like a lunatic trying to get ready. Anyway, once we returned to our room, we finished getting ready at headed out...lost. Only slightly(?) Okay, we had no idea where were going. Our plan was to get on a bus, or train and go to this wonderful island that was outside of Stockholm. Because we didn't really know how to get there, we just started walking in the general area. After a mile and a half of..."Let's turn here?" "Sure, why not?" We found ourselves in front of the Visitors Center. Luckily there was a very nice lady who helped us find the tram. (Quick side note, my iPad didn't recognize the word tram...very peculiar) once we got on the tram, (iPad still doesn't like that word) we rode past the main shopping center, over a bridge, past a lot of people, and to our stop, which was only a few hundred feet from the tram stop. Since my mom got these Stockholm cards, which allowed us access into many museums, parks, and public transportation, we didn't have to stand in the 15 minute line just to get tickets. Imagine a sunny day in Colorado...just in Sweden. Thank the Lord it was a beautiful day outside because we did the first open air museum called Skansen. It was absolutely massive too! It featured old buildings that dated back to the 17 and 1800s. This museum included a glass blowing building, a general store, a school house, 2 belfrys, a church, a farmstead, a pottery house, an engineering building, a zoo (which was odd amongst the traditional Swedish buildings) and so much more! NOTE: I will be posting pictures in the Stockholm tab that will give some better details on Skansen because my brain is almost at capacity...not really at capacity. Back to the day. After Skansen, we rode the tram to Vasa Museet. (Vasa Museum) this museum featured a ship that sunk in the 17th century. Reserved for years until the late 20th century, the Vasa stands 4 stories tall just from the bottom to the top deck and over 7 stories tall including mast and rigging. Humorously, this ship sunk maybe 1000 feet from its port in Stockholm on it's maiden voyage. Tragically, 30 people died in the accident including sailors, the admiral, and two women. On that note, we left Vasa Museet and boarded th tram back to our hotel. On the way, we grabbed a sandwich and ate dinner in the park in front of our hotel. Now I am writing my blog to you wonderful people (love you all!) and will soon head to bed.
Tomorrow we are going on a bike tour, praying that the weather will be as nice as it was today.
